Something I like to keep in mind when I am writing is what questions would a reader have and want answers. Some of them are obvious to the plot and some of them might simple little tidbits "Why does he like oatmeal raisin cookies so much?"
Also; have a little contempt for your audience! Tease them. They deserve it and they know it.
